Clutter-busting Saturday #2 – 14 Items!

Not bad for a simple days work.  The catalogs are being recycled, the pencils and pencil sharpener and being sent to my little brother along with the drawing pad that I found a week ago that would be perfect for his budding artist talents.  The calendar?  Well that was a choice I made after a lot of thinking and finally just shrugging it away simply with a “Well, I do have an organizer now…” type of thought.

May’s Clutter-busting Challenge = 440 TOTAL ITEMS!

Well, May has come and gone, and with it a lot of items have said goodbye and good riddance during said time.  To be more exact, I got rid of 440 total items during the month of May.  HOLY COW!  I didn’t even realize I was carrying some of that stuff honestly.  It was so nice to see that amount climb over the weeks as I was purging, cleaning, and organizing my little suite that I’ve put together upstairs.  I’m pretty happy with the way things are going so far; there is still a lot to do, but I’m up for the task.  Now that there is a lot less stuff to worry about, it looks easier as well.  And THAT, makes me even more happy.

440 items guys… That’s just… WOW.  I still can’t get over it.

As I know I still have things that I can get rid either by donating, selling, or trashing, I’m going to continue my clutter busting on Saturdays and will have updated posts for you there.  I probably won’t keep a tally of the totals, but the pictures will probably speak for themselves.  Right?

BUSTING THIS CHALLENGE WITH A BANG! DAY 31 = 82 ITEMS!

That’s right! 82 items today!  Too many to list, but  as you can see from the picture, it was definitely a variety of items today that is either being sold, donated, trashed, or recycled!  Four books, 2 styrofoam balls, at least two dozen foam discs that I have no idea where the gun is anymore and if I find it, it’s just going in the donation pile too (I’ve upgraded to true nerf guns 😉 ). I even have two digital video recording tapes that I had from a college Media course that I’ll never use again.  Meh.. why did I keep this stuff?

Huzzah for me, and my accomplishments on the clutter busting challenge!  I do believe that I knocked this one out of the park.  I’ll have a recap on it in a few days, but let’s just say I got rid of over 400 items this month.  THAT amazes and thrills me at the same time.

May’s Clutter-busting Challenge Day 30 = 22 ITEMS!

Day 30 ended up being a lot more organizing than decluttering for me.  Since I was doing more outside chores than inside, I didn’t have much time to spring forth for a lot of items to get out of my life.  Some of these things are being recycled, put into my shipping supplies (and obviously taking less space), or in case for one item, being given to my little brother.  But there’s 22 items there for one day, and I don’t see an end in sight at this moment as I still have yet to tackle that closet of mine and various other things.  I think I will be making Saturdays my clutter busting days for the ongoing future until I’m finally happy with where I am.  The fact that so many things are getting organized and put into their proper places is a huge accomplishment.  This challenge that Money Saving Mom put together really lit a fire under my butt in the motivation department, that’s for sure!  Also, big thanks to True Whit for talking about this challenge on her own blog and I ending up coming across her great writing as well as a great motivating challenge. There’s only today left in the challenge, and I think that I’m going to blow your mind on how clutter-busting happy I got today!

Items being put into the shipping supplies shelf:

  • 4 pieces of bubble wrap
  • 1 dry cleaning bag (the plastic is perfect for adding just a little extra cushion to some small items that sell

Item being donated:

  • 1 Small drawing pad that I never ended up using, this will go to my little brother to help cultivate his inner artist

Items being trashed/recycled:

  • 9 sheets of paper
  • 5 very old and outdated advils
  • 1 ripped piece of plastic
  • 1 piece of dead cardboard

Total = 22 items!

May’s Clutter-busting Challenge Day 29 = 55 ITEMS!

know I’ve been basically blasting through this clutter-busting challenge nonstop this past week and haven’t really had any time to post about anything else, and I apologize for that.  We are almost done.  I promise.  I wanted to make sure I followed through on this challenge as the Move Your Ass Challenge had been abandoned early in the month as countdown to my best friends’ wedding and my brother’s graduation/party commenced.  Good grief have I been finding things in nooks and crannies lately, I’m telling you.  The last couple of days have been me going through my art supplies as you saw with the big Sculpey cleanse (by the way, if you’re interested in that, I’d go looking, I already have four watchers on that listing and it’s definitely priced to sell).  This time, I decided to purge some of my comic book pages that I had salvaged from dead comics that my oldest brother had when he was a teen.  I had dissected them, put them in comic book sleeves, and plastered them on my closet doors in my dorm to give it just a bit more nerdiness and color.  Sadly, I found out most of the women in my hall were most definitely NOT into what I was and instead spent my freshman year in college spending time with my best friend (also my roomie in that dinky room), along with my two besties from high school.

I went through them and found the ones that I could still find some artistic inspiration from, kept those for later filing into a binder, and here are the rest waiting to be trashed.  Oh, and a fortune cookie wrapper.  That’s 55 items right there folks.  They gave me good memories, and I wish I had a picture of the closet in all its glory, but sadly I believe it was lost.  It was truly epic and thrilled me every day when I woke up on the bottom bunk.

Catch Up: May’s Clutter-busting Challenge Days 22-24 = 35 ITEMS!

Today in order to catch up 3 days worth of clutter-busting, I went through what was still sitting in my printer, my unemployment folder, and I found a few more loose cannons including old college exams.  My guy technically owns the pair of sunglasses in the picture, but he complained about how they fit and the fact that they were broken he had ended up leaving them one time (he has a habit of losing sunglasses like losing change in the couch cushions.. no joke).  I asked if he was still interested in them the other day and with an emphatic NO, I tossed them into the clutter pile to be tossed.  Thanks sweetie for adding the number of items in my challenge!

image

Since every item today is either being recycled or trashed, I don’t really need to get into too many specifics. Most of it is old coupons that never were redeemed and forgotten, unemployment papers that are outdated or not needed anymore (still no job though), college blue books for exam days, an empty colored pencil box (after sorting them into my existing stash in the toolbox), and an old window cling that has a now out of date web address.  Easy peasy today, and it ended up being 35 items!  Huzzah!

May’s Clutter-busting Challenge Days 25-28 = 33 ITEMS!

Another 33 items for the days of the 25-28! I’m going through old art supplies and figure that since I’m not going to be using this stuff soon, and it does have a shelf life, that I’m going to just put it up on ebay and hope for the best.  If you’re interested in this lot, please go check out my listing here.  It only has 6 days left on it, so be sure to get a bid in if you’re wanting this stuff.  I priced it to sell as I have a couple of goodies that I’m trying to pay for that should be arriving to my door ANY day now to help organize my space!  Can’t wait for the big reveal here soon!

Rainy Day Goal #5 – Cleaning the Apartment Suite/Office

I am an artist. I hoard art supplies. I am also a geek/nerd however you say it.  I love comic books, the characters, the merchandise thereof.  I also find myself selling things on ebay and Amazon for myself (to earn some extra cash) and others (to still earn some cash for me and them).  It’s not a bad life, but I do admit that my creative chaos expands more than it ever has detracted.

I’m hoping that over this next week I can manage it better.  I want to get rid of stuff that’s broken or that I’ll never ever use (oh hi white fabric and white tulle that was never used in that project I said I would use them)! So basically, I’m de-cluttering EVERYTHING.  Maybe if I do this right I’ll actually have a workable space and more room than I thought possible.

We shall see.. we shall see.  So in the mean time, enjoy some before photos of the office/studio part of my apartment suite.  I’ll be updating the progress as we go.

Alright! I have to play catch up with these posts, so I apologize for the sudden flood of them.  However, I’m now in the process of cleaning the apartment suite in order to make sure as many guests as possible are comfortable.  See, in two weeks time my brother is graduating high school (I’m sure I’ve said this previously) and we have many family members going to be crashing at our place.  It’s my mom’s last child graduating so we’re going to have a bit of a bash, and as such I need to see if I can get more room prepared for the huge amount whose keys we’re confiscating and continuing that graduation party all night if need be.  Sooo.. here’s days 13-15 with 26 items!

May’s Clutter-busting Challenge Days 7-9 = 42 ITEMS!

Another day of organizing the bookshelves, another day getting rid of unneeded items.  This time around I focused on a shelf that contained a LOT of art stuff from my youth.  It even contained a few things from my sophomore year in college (5 years ago).  Ugh, was it really that long?  Anyway, here’s the mother load of paperwork:

image

Items being recycled:

  • Huge stack of college notes for a speech class (at least 25 items) right there!
  • Stack of old clip art (another 7 items) that had been stashed in a folder from when I was in middle school
  • 2 drawings from an ex from middle school (why was I still holding on to this?? Oh right.. it was in the same folder as the clipart)

Items being donated/given away:

  • Sketchbook (not the right paper for my taste, but again, will go to my little brother)
  • Perfectly good notebook
  • Make Your Own Comic Book set from Canson (I prefer the real stuff, but my little brother will love this!)
  • Stack of 4 Star Wars folders (will go to my other brother in NM as these were originally his, and I’m sure he’ll love the nostalgia).
  • Song book for my old Yamaha keyboard (again, to my brother in NM, as he bought my old keyboard from me).

Total = 42 items! Huzzah!

May’s Clutter-busting Challenge Days 4-6 = 26 ITEMS!

It’s time for another update on the clutter-busting challenge.  Although Money Saving Mom specifies that the challenge is for the week days, I’m actually going to use every single day of this month to try and get rid of a few things and make my life sooo much easier!  So far I have been tackling my makeshift bookshelves and have been going through old books, college notes, even old paperwork that no longer means anything.  I can’t believe how much stuff I have, and I don’t even live on my own!  Not to mention, this is only one section of my room so far.. and I’m already afraid of tackling that closet!

Anyway, here’s the stuff leaving the house today.  A lot of it is old notes that are going straight in a box deemed for the recycling center.  The rest is either trash or being donated.

image

Items being recycled:

  • 7 various pieces of mail
  • 3 college blue books that were exams
  • Stack of old notes and receipts

Items being thrown out:

  • 2 old cases for contacts
  • 2 sheets of mailing labels that have old address
  • Plastic baggy (I seem to be an avid collector of these things).
  • Old, broken credit card case

Items being given away:

  • 5 coloring sheets (these will be sent to my youngest brother as I believe that they’ll be enjoyed by him since he’s going to be six 🙂

Total = 26 items!

Another good set of days I believe! Let’s see if I can up that a little next time!
