A Factory Working, College Grad Getting Out of Debt

Date Night on a Budget- A Geek’s Dream Date

Yes, even though I’m unemployed, I can still budget something like a date night with my guy.  While the world was celebrating Valentine’s Day, my guy had work and school all day, so we postponed it to today.  As I’m writing this, I can’t tell you how excited I am.  I haven’t really been out of the house for awhile other than the post office and bank and it’s time for a little fun.

However, there is going to be a few chores done before I actually get there.  When I go out, I make a list of all the things I possibly need to do and wait for a day (or two) during the week that I need to get these things done.  Today won’t be any different.  I’m already making my mental list as to what I need to do in order to be able to go meet my guy and have an enjoyable evening.  That involves going to two banks, the post office, and the pharmacy.  I have to drop packages and pick up a few cards that will need to be sent out in  the next few days.  Once finished with those errands, I will be right on my way to meet up with my guy and start our Valentine’s Date.

It’s not too far of a stretch of what we’ll be doing on this date.  As soon as I saw the release date of a film I turned my guy and asked politely if he had made any plans yet and when there was a “no” uttered, I replied “Good, because we’re going to this:”

Yeah, that’s right. I am a total nerd/geek/tomboy type of woman. Give me this action film series along with the Lethal Weapons and I will always be happy.  This was such an easy excuse to go see a movie.  And since my guy has a couple of movie vouchers that he purchased off Mypoints, our tickets are already in our hands.  But I’m sorry, I’m starting at the end of the date, aren’t I?

The movie will be one of the last things we do for the night.  To start off, we’ll be going to our local comic book shop, the game shop next door, an electronic store, AND a sweets/bakery shop.  That might sound like a lot of money, but remember, I’ve got this already in my budget for the month. Some of it’s just to make a scene again with our favorite establishments and let them know we’re still loyal but just on the hard end of luck these days, too.  Do you think we’re going to the movie yet?

Really?  You did?  Well I”m sorry to disappoint, but a girl’s got to eat. And this girl has been craving crab legs for awhile.  So using our gift cards we received from family members this past Christmas, we’ll be treating ourselves to a virtual free meal at Red Lobster. I can already hear the cracking and taste that yummy crustacean. Nom, nom, nom!

At this point I’m betting that it’ll be time to go to the movie and I’ll enjoy every second of that rich actiony goodness and syrupy sarcasm that only my John McClane can deliver.  But if that wasn’t enough richness… After the movie we’ll be enjoying one last establishment: an Irish Pub by the name of Cook McDoogal’s that was the scene of our first date. There we’ll be enjoying a couple slices of sinful cheese cake that when I’m pregnant years from now I’ll be craving probably every day. I wish I could get the secret family recipe in preparation of this revelation so that I don’t have to keep sending my guy out to go get another cheesecake every other day. Really.. it’s that good.

Sounds like a really eventful day, and I can’t wait!  The budget of it all, is probably only going to be about $30-$40 thanks to the gift cards and coupons that my guy and I have in our arsenal of saving money.  Did I mention how much I love my guy by the way?  He puts up with my silliness and thinks my gaming, nerdy butt is sexy. I honestly adore him.

Happy belated Valentine’s!
