Progress Report – Goals for April 2013

In an effort to keep myself accountable, here I go in seeing what goals I have accomplished, what I still need to do, and which ones should be moved to next month.

Money Goals

  • Find a few ways for this Rainy Day blog to make some funds, however small it may be…
  • Find a new way of making money.
  • Finish last commission on list and take new ones (5).
  • Sell unneeded items on ebay and amazon to make extra $.
  • To make enough money this month to pay my car payment ($301) AND half of my June car insurance money.
  • To spend less than $100 on me.
  • To find a job.

Alright, although I haven’t found a new way to make money, I was offered a chance to work for my comic books by watching the store and manning the sales while my friends are up at C2E2 this weekend.  I’ll be able to catch up on my subscriptions, and this will give me the future opportunity (perhaps) to do this more when my friend needs me to fill in for him and an easy way for me to save a little extra money while I’m still unemployed.  Unfortunately, there is just not a lot of things that are selling ebay and amazon right now.  February was a whole different story, but now that people are no longer getting tax checks and instead are making tax payments.. I’m not having that much business.  I’m hoping it will pick up in May and June.  Still no job, but so far, I’ve spent very little money on myself this month, and I’m hoping to keep it that way..

Rainy Day Goals

  • Convert my brother’s, my guy’s, and my own music to the existing external hard drive for easy access.
  • Organize my dvd/blu-ray collection.
  • Get rid of at LEAST 20 items this month, via selling, donation, or throw-away.
  • To continue organizing my room for optimal business format/personal use.
  • Hack my journal into an accessible planner/organizer.
  • Go through my books and see what items I will sell/donate.
  • Start to get the house ready for a graduation party (my brother’s).

The only one that has been done on this list is the last one.  I’ve been so dedicated to cleaning, organizing, and painting to get ready for the graduation party that I haven’t done much else.  A lot of household chores are getting done instead, and a lot of my own “goals” are falling to the wayside.  Perhaps I should do something about this?  Spend 30 minutes every other day on one of these goals?  What do you think?

Personal Goals

  • Continue the MWF posts for Rainy Day & Gamer Talk.
  • Add a Paypal button for tips or purchases on this blog and Gamer Talk for donations.
  • Create logos/banners for both blogs.
  • Add artwork to various art sites and sell my artwork online.
  • Continue my art blog.
  • Refine my gamer podcast and restart it.
  • Participate in Move Your Ass Challenge
  • Blow my 100 mile goal for MYAC out of the water.
  • Lose 20 pounds.

I’m participating in MYAC, and man, that 100 mile goal was unrealistic for the first month.  I will honestly be happy if I get to 30 miles at this point. I think next month I’ll move it to 45 and we’ll progress from there.  The pounds aren’t necessarily shedding either, but the inches seem to be.  My clothing feels just a little bit looser, and I can comfortably be in my bridesmaid dress.  I have to kick things into gear though on the rest of this stuff.

Well, it seems I’ve been really lazy when it comes to my own goals, but when it comes to the house, landscaping, and prep for graduation party, I’ve been rocking it.  Now if only I could start getting these pounds to shed…

Wish me luck!

Goal Achievement Report – March 2013

Time to see what all I achieved this month! Honestly, I feel like I didn’t do much, but maybe I’ll be surprised.

Money Goals

  • Find a few ways for this Rainy Day blog to make some funds, however small it may be…
  • Sell unneeded items on ebay and amazon to make extra $.
  • To make enough money this month to pay my car payment ($301).
  • To spend less than $100 on me.
  • To find a job.

Unfortunately, I had no luck on the ebay front this month, so that hindered me earning enough money from sales to pay off my car payment.  I DID however make enough from sales in February to take care of the bridesmaid dress! That made me extremely happy. I also bombed the $100 and finding a job goals.  So, according to all of this, I really bombed the Money goals.

Rainy Day Goals

  • Convert my mother’s music to an external hard drive for easy access.
  • Organize my dvd/blu-ray collection.
  • Get rid of at LEAST 20 items this month, via selling, donation, or throw-away.
  • To continue organizing my room for optimal business format/personal use.

SUCCESS on the music to an external hard drive! In fact, I’m so happy with it right now, especially since we have so much more space on the 3TB drive that I’m also going to be converting my own, my brother’s, AND my guy’s to the hard drive as well!  20 items would have been easy had my sales on amazon and ebay gone better, but unfortunately this was also a bust.  The task for my mother’s music was daunting and I didn’t have the time to get my dvd/blu-ray collection organized.  Perhaps next month.

Personal Goals

  • Continue the MWF posts for Rainy Day & Gamer Talk.
  • Create a notebook/planner for each blog.
  • Create logos for both blogs.
  • Add artwork to various art sites and sell my artwork online.
  • Continue my art blog.
  • Refine my gamer podcast and restart it.
  • Lose 15 pounds.

Well, the Rainy Day was diligently given care.  And now that I have bought a notebook to hack for a planner, I’ll be able to jot ideas down when the mood strikes me.  My artwork didn’t go as planned, and I learned a key lesson on commissions, but don’t worry, I have a plan for getting my money and time back on that one.  The podcast was on hiatus as I was dedicating myself to the music project.  Oh, and I lost 12 pounds, but gained 4 back… that looks to be muscle weight however as my pants are slowly getting looser and my arms are getting more toned.  Hopefully this keeps working.

Overall, I still have a LOT of work to do, but I’m hoping that April brings me luck.  What about you? Did you have any monthly goals and achieve them?  Let me know, I do so love hearing from you and your experiences.  Every comment brightens my day!

A Raindrop – Making Money by Downsizing

As I type this, I’m hearing the sleet pelt against my window and dreading having to run errands tomorrow.  Most likely that experience will spawn a new blog post, so bring it on I say! Bring it on!

One of the places that I’ll be going to tomorrow is the post office.  I have a few packages to ship and it seems that I have had quite a few to ship lately.  Thankfully I haven’t had to go to the post office almost every day like I did leading up to Christmas, but I at least have to go twice a week now.  A big reason for that is the fact that I have been downsizing on my overall collection of stuff. Since I began, I have gotten rid a total of 24 items and have received about $250 for it.  That’s a car payment.

I’m pretty happy with the fact that I am getting rid of this stuff.  I no longer have the space to hold it all, so I’ve been sorting through my items.  Those that I truly enjoy, I keep.  Those I don’t have a use for any longer, I sell on ebay.  Any items that are broken are immediately trashed.  So far things are going slow, but that’s because I’m trying to avoid ebay fees as well as insure the fact that I don’t mix item lots.  I also don’t want all of my items just sitting around waiting to be shipped and causing more chaos in my (ever evolving) organized room.

I have a very large eclectic taste for items.  So if you’re interested in anything Star Wars, Batman, Dragonball Z, or even scrapbooking, I’ll be posting up lots over the next couple of days.  I will also have a few dvd lots that include a couple of 3D movie theater glasses.  Please add me in your watch if you’re interested in any of this.  I’ll be posting a LOT of mixed lots and single items here over the next couple of months.

2012 Breakdown Quarterly/Annual Report

Hello again everyone.  I know you might be thinking that you’ve already a seen a Breakdown for this month, but I would like to see what exactly I have been able to accomplish in my overall debt from when I started to today.  In the future, I will have quarterly breakdowns as well as annual breakdown reviews of both my debt and my raindrop progress, but since I only truly started keeping track in October, this is the only quarterly/annual report that I will have for 2012.

I have an excel sheet that I have developed to see what all I have been able to compare month to month on everything, and I will be showing you how to create your own for your home.  You could easily adapt it for a business as well.  However, that’s for next time… so let’s get down to business shall we?

From the months of October to December, I made a few changes in my bill payment methods.  Thanks to the advice of some of you, I have started doing an adapted version of Ramsey’s “snowball” effect.  I also transferred a big chunk of my credit card debt to a 0% APR credit card that was issued through my credit union.  This has allowed me to progressively work towards getting rid of my high APR cards and avoid the interest monster for a year.

Unfortunately in the middle of November, I left my job because I had no choice. Thankfully, after waiting six weeks to make sure there was going to be no contest from my former employer, I was relieved to announce that I did indeed win unemployment and cannot help but say that it has truly been a relief on my savings.

Of course, my “fun” expenses have taken a plummet because of that unemployment status.  In fact, from that particular segment of my expenses, it changed from nearly $300 to a mere $75. And that expense is only that high because I’m currently relying on gift cards that I was given over the course of the holidays and my birthday to liven it up sporadically over the next few months.

My gasoline and food budget have also exponentially decreased.  While I was working, I found that I was spending 1/4 – 1/3 of my monthly income on just fuel.  I was then spending a near 1/4 of my monthly income on food that I was eating before, during, or after work.  It’s kind of an eye opener how much of my income was based on necessities and now how I’m easily living on just selling excess on ebay and amazon as well my unemployment.  Crazy.

I have, however, reduced my debt by $819.91! Even with my crazy, expense-filled December, this difference is so inspirational I can’t even tell you how happy I am that I still made a difference despite the problems I faced this quarter.  Thank goodness right???

Goals for January 2013

I know I put up a 101 Things to do in 1001 Days post, but I wanted to make sure I still had something that I wanted to do in January specifically.  Since January has been declared the Month of Organization, I figured I would be focusing most of my goals on just that: cleaning/organizing.  It’s time that I start working on downsizing as well as making money since I have to find alternate means of income right now.

Money Goals

  • Find a few ways for this Rainy Day blog to make some funds, however small it may be…
  • Sell unneeded items on ebay and amazon to make extra $.
  • To make enough money this month to pay either my car payment ($301).
  • To make enough money to pay all my bills without hurting my savings account too much.
  • To find a job.

Rainy Day Goals

  • Help my mother organize/clean the home.
  • Organize my dvd/blu-ray collection.
  • Organize the shipping supplies.
  • Get rid of unneeded items that can either not be sold or donated.
  • To continue organizing my room for optimal business format/personal use.

  • Lose 10 pounds.

Well, that should be enough right?  Let’s see if I can attain these or not.  The particularly interesting ones are going to be the money goals.

Goal Achievement Report – December 2012

Well, January is here and it’s time to see what all I accomplished in December! Holding myself accountable on these things have helped me make a lot of progress on myself and my life.  Thanks guys!  Please keep it up and I promise to do the same.  😉

Money Goals

  • Find a few ways for this Rainy Day blog to make some funds, however small it may be…
  • Sell unneeded items on ebay and amazon to make extra $.
  • To make enough money this month to pay either my car payment ($301), my auto insurance ($336), or both.
  • To make enough money to pay all my bills without hurting my savings account too much.
  • To find a job.

Alright, still looking into finding ways of this blog making me money.  If you have any ideas, please let me know.  Also, I am happy to say that I did indeed sell a bunch of items on amazon and ebay and ended up being in between ($436 in between) the car + auto insurance total with just this accomplishment!  Yay, me!  As for the rest of the bills, they were paid for with the unemployment that I ended up receiving and then some.

Still no luck on finding a job, but with unemployment coming in… I have some time to find one now and I don’t have to be too desperate.  It’s time to make me better and that’s exactly my intention.

Rainy Day Goals

  • To finish the cabinet revival.
  • Finish the Christmas tree.
  • Help my mother organize/clean the home.
  • Find alternative means for gifts for those on my gift list.
  • Get rid of unneeded items that can either not be sold or donated.
  • To continue organizing my room for optimal business format/personal use.

Cabinet revival and Christmas tree are finished thankfully!  I’ll have posts for you soon as it has been a pretty hectic month.  I’ve been cleaning and organizing the home with my mom (it can always use more work), but sadly my room has been neglected because of it and now needs a deep cleansing.  I usually end up spending about $300-400 in Christmas gifts each year, but I was able to scale that down to $100 and the people I gave gifts to were still just as happy!  Who knew?  When it came to the alternative gifts, it ended up becoming an alternative means to make money, and I’ll be sure to let you know when the time is right on just what I did with that too!

Personal Goals

  • Continue the MWF posts for Rainy Day.
  • Add artwork to various art sites and sell my artwork online.
  • Continue my art blog.
  • Refine my gamer blog/podcast and restart it.

I ended up only missing a couple of days this month on the MWF post schedule for Rainy Day.  That’s not bad!  Honestly, I took about a week off (Christmas-New Years) and only posted things that I already had in the wings to make up for it.  I’ve added artwork onto BigCartel, renewed my subscription to Deviantart (which I will be updating this month), and will be updating my artwork blog this coming week as well.  I have also restarted the gamer blog and a podcast is in the wings!

Overall, I would say MOST of my goals were accomplished, and I am most proud of myself!

Goal Progress Report – Mid December 2012

Time to see what all I have accomplished thus far…

Well, I’m still technically working on all of these still.  However, I have had some luck with ebay and amazon the last couple of weeks and it has been helping me pay for a part of my bills.  I’m not sure if we’ve reached the car payment mark yet, but it’s still a decent chunk!

Cabinets and Christmas tree are finished!  So we’ve been cleaning and organizing the house when we can.  So far I’ve been focusing on the items that I can sell right now, but the next things on my list are donations and trash.  My room is still obviously the ongoing goal again…

Personal Goals

  • Continue the MWF posts for Rainy Day.
  • Add artwork to various art sites and sell my artwork online.
  • Continue my art blog.
  • Refine my gamer blog/podcast and restart it.

I would like to say that every single one of these has been done except my art blog!  I still have to update that, but everything else has been done.  YAY!

All of these goals still need lots of work, but I still have some time to get things done!
