Living off a $100 for the Month of January

Alright guys, I know it’s been a week since I last posted, and I apologize for that.  I needed a bit of a break to recharge, as well as get a few other things accomplished.  Now that I’m back, I’ve decided that in the next couple of weeks I’m going to be working pretty hard on making sure I have some posts in the wings in case I need to take a break from the blogging world again. Hopefully I’ll be able to have about a week’s worth of posts in the wings at all times.  That’s one of my goals for February.

Now, as for the actual reason I’m talking to you.. I’d like to celebrate a little accomplishment that occurred in January.  I only lived off a $100 budget.  I should clarify on this, as I know you all are aware of my bills breakdowns that I post every month to help keep me more accountable.  Yes, I spent that money on bills, but the $100 I’m talking about right now is spending money.  This was money that took care of the rest of expenses, including my monthly prescription.  By the time January was over, I actually only spent $96.90.

I actually went under with $3.10 to spare.  Holy crap!

I hadn’t given myself a budget number for the month of January. I only told myself that I would spend as little money as I possibly can. I admit I indulged just a little bit, but I was very happy at the end of the month to see that I only spent this little.  I’m hoping that in the next couple of months that I will be able to keep this budget in order to keep my savings where it’s been: at a stand still.

Again, I feel very proud of myself right now.  Now that I know I can do it, I almost wonder if I could continue the no-spending and see if I can shave off any more.  I’m not sure if I want to risk it, because some of the money that was spent became a bit of a godsend as the items kept me from going stir crazy with cabin fever.  What do you think?  Should I continue to shave the budget?  Or did I do the right thing by being very conservative?

1000 Views!

1000-views

Wow! I never thought I would be saying that I have over 1000 views on my blog! Well… okay, maybe I did, but I certainly didn’t see it happening so soon! I was honestly thinking I would hit the thousand mark at about the year anniversary. Yeah.. I had high hopes. 😉

Anyway, thank you so much for the readership! I really, really appreciate it! So this might be the time to let you all know that I am planning on moving the blog to a dedicated server. It’s time to start monetizing the blog because of the unemployment status. Every little bit of income needs to be squeezed from the things I’m doing right now to make ends meet.

I will still be very active on WordPress. And the move probably won’t happen until next week as there is still theme hunting that I have to do, but I am grateful once again for you all stopping by my place! Thank you so much!

Rainy Day has been Nominated for 3 Blog Awards!

I woke up this morning to find not one, but two comments on my most recent blog post.  If that wasn’t enough to make me happy, the material within one of those comments most certainly was!  I have been nominated by the lovely and witty missprofessorcasey over at How Not to Kill Your Parents for three blog awards and I honestly cannot believe it.  I started this blog as a goal setting, progress reporting, and accountability item that I would use to get me through my debt and my journey of doing it.  I never imagined that after only three months that I would be nominated for any type of award, let alone THREE!  WOW! Thank you!

Please note that my nominations and interesting items will follow the rules of each award.

I have been nominated for the following:

My Seven Interesting Things:

  1. My real name is Ashleigh Noelle and means Meadow in December (hence DecMeadow).  My mom pictured a meadow just after a Christmas snow that had been untouched.  I later got her to admit that because I was born in Arizona in the middle of December that she was just really, really homesick for frozen precipitation. 😉
  2. My name is also an oxymoron.  Meadow = flat grassy land, my last name = stone filled field. I love this tidbit about me.
  3. I am obsessed with animated features, particularly Disney & Pixar films.  I could watch them everyday for the rest of my life.
  4. I once won a Gold Key in the Scholastic Art Awards, and it was only my freshman year in high school.
  5. I saved my brother’s life.
  6. I cry every single time I watch It’s a Wonderful Life.
  7. I also cry more watching movies and listening to songs than I do in actual sad situations that go on in my life. Weird.

And the nominees are:

  1. How Not to Kill Your Parents
  2. Bee Somebody
  3. Matthew Hansel’s Artwork
  4. Sense to Save
  5. Kids in the Sink
  6. You, Me, && a Skeleton Key
  7. DIY Geekery
  8. Crafty Staci
  9. Craft Schmaft
  10. The Little Creatures
  11. The Cheeky Diva
  12. Lady and the Trash
  13. The Doyle Dispatch
  14. Stitch and Sketch
  15. By Amber’s Hands

Congrats to everybody and once again, thank you so much again for the nominations!  I am truly honored and blessed!

Goal Progress Report – Mid December 2012

Time to see what all I have accomplished thus far…

Money Goals

  • Find a few ways for this Rainy Day blog to make some funds, however small it may be…
  • Sell unneeded items on ebay and amazon to make extra $.
  • To make enough money this month to pay either my car payment ($301), my auto insurance ($336), or both.
  • To make enough money to pay all my bills without hurting my savings account too much.
  • To find a job.

Well, I’m still technically working on all of these still.  However, I have had some luck with ebay and amazon the last couple of weeks and it has been helping me pay for a part of my bills.  I’m not sure if we’ve reached the car payment mark yet, but it’s still a decent chunk!

Rainy Day Goals

  • To finish the cabinet revival.
  • Finish the Christmas tree.
  • Help my mother organize/clean the home.
  • Find alternative means for gifts for those on my gift list.
  • Get rid of unneeded items that can either not be sold or donated.
  • To continue organizing my room for optimal business format/personal use.

Cabinets and Christmas tree are finished!  So we’ve been cleaning and organizing the house when we can.  So far I’ve been focusing on the items that I can sell right now, but the next things on my list are donations and trash.  My room is still obviously the ongoing goal again…

Personal Goals

  • Continue the MWF posts for Rainy Day.
  • Add artwork to various art sites and sell my artwork online.
  • Continue my art blog.
  • Refine my gamer blog/podcast and restart it.

I would like to say that every single one of these has been done except my art blog!  I still have to update that, but everything else has been done.  YAY!

All of these goals still need lots of work, but I still have some time to get things done!
